Rosemary Dewerse

Rosemary Dewerse

Rosemary grew up the daughter of Presbyterian ministry parents serving in Mangakino, north Christchurch and Waikaka Valley, Southland. She married Roelant in her university home church, St Pauls Trinity Pacific, Christchurch, then was part of Fairfield Presbyterian, Hamilton. She began teaching secondary Music and English before studying theology. Since then she has worked in the design and delivery of programs for leaders across the church in England, Central Asia (in a Korean-founded seminary), Australia (for the SA Uniting Church) and Aotearoa New Zealand, including for Te Whare Wananga o Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa. Rosemary is interested in and supervises doctoral students in missional church, contextual theologies and indigenous hermeneutics, intercultural engagement, and spirituality. She chairs the Council of Interserve(NZ). Rosemary has published Breaking Calabashes: Becoming an Intercultural Community; Nga Kai-rui i Te Rongopai: Seven Early Maori Christians, edited We are Pilgrims: Mission from, in and with the Margins of our Diverse World, and Moving Together: Missional Songs for God’s People and was privileged to ghost-write Yarta Wandatha by Aboriginal woman Denise Champion. Enjoying creativity and hanging out with Roelant, children Mereem and Jean-Luc, wider family and friends, she plays piano, writes songs, and reads novels, including those her children have on the go.
